Strategic Intent
This specialist runs in chat and as a node you can add to a workflow for repeatable, scheduled runs. See the Agent Catalog for how the two relate.
Overview
Strategic Intent helps you put your workforce strategy into words. You give it your business context — industry, size, focus, and what's driving change — and it produces an executive-ready statement of where your organization is heading and what it's aiming for.
It's built for HR and workforce-planning leaders at the start of a planning cycle, a transformation program, or a leadership conversation, when you need to move from scattered notes to a coherent, shareable direction. Reach for it when you know the change you want to make but need help articulating the theme and the objectives that support it.
Everything it writes is grounded strictly in what you provide. It never invents facts about your business. Where a detail is missing, it either flags the gap with a clear placeholder or asks you one focused question so you can fill in the most important piece.
What you'll need
Have the following ready — the more you provide, the sharper the result:
- Your organization's basics — industry, size or scale, and main focus or scope.
- What's driving the change — the strategic pressures, opportunities, or mandates behind this planning effort.
- The scope boundary — the area you want the transformation to cover, for example AI-enabled operations, regional expansion, a compliance upgrade, or becoming a skills-first company.
If you've already completed Set up your organization, much of this context is applied automatically and you can focus your prompt on the change you're planning.
How to ask
State your context and the direction you want to set. A focused brief works best.
Set the overall direction for a transformation:
We're a mid-sized logistics company moving toward AI-enabled operations over
the next two years. Draft our transformation theme and the strategic
objectives that should guide our workforce planning.
Frame the objectives around a specific driver:
Rising regulatory pressure is our main driver this year. Help us articulate a
compliance-focused transformation theme and the strategic objectives to
support it.
Work from limited context and let Ellie surface the gaps:
We want to expand into two new regions but haven't defined our workforce
strategy yet. Start a strategic intent for us and tell me what's missing.
What you get
You receive a Strategic Objectives report you can read, refine, and export. It has three parts:
- Company Context — a short summary of your organization based on what you provided, with clear placeholders for anything not supplied.
- Transformation Theme — a plain description of the central change your strategy is organized around.
- Strategic Objectives — three to five directional objectives that support the theme, written as qualitative, action-oriented statements.
The objectives are intentionally free of numeric targets. This specialist keeps them focused on direction and outcomes, so you can attach your own measures later once the intent is agreed.
Tips
- Name the scope boundary explicitly. The clearer you are about what the transformation covers, the tighter the theme and objectives.
- Answer the follow-up question when Ellie asks one — it's aimed at the biggest gap in your context.
- Don't expect metrics here. Objectives are directional by design; add targets in a later step once the strategy is set.
- Set up your organization first so every answer inherits your industry, size, and focus automatically.
- Use it as a workflow node to refresh your strategic intent on a schedule as your business context shifts.
